M2 Mechanical installs electric vehicle (EV) charge points in homes and businesses all over the UK.
Although homeowners can no longer take advantage of any Government grants for domestic EV charger installations at present, the Workplace Charging Scheme is still available for businesses.
Here are the top 5 reasons that we’ve found why businesses are choosing to install electric vehicle charge points at their premises:
1. Government incentives:
The UK government has set targets to phase out the sale of new petrol/diesel cars by 2035, with potential incentives for businesses to switch to electric vehicles and install charging infrastructure.
The current Workplace Charging Scheme grant is open to eligible businesses, charities, and public sector organisations, covering up to 75% of the total costs of the purchase and installation of the EV charge points (inclusive of VAT). This is capped at 40 chargers across all applicant sites (e.g. a company with 40 sites could have 1 charger per site) and a maximum of up to £500 per charger.
2. Corporate social responsibility:
For business’s with a corporate social responsibility strategy, encouraging the use of electric vehicles will align with your environmental goals by helping to reduce carbon emissions, air pollution, and noise pollution.
3. Cost-saving:
For businesses looking to reduce their operational expenses, investing in electric vehicles and electric vehicle charge points on the premises could be a strong economical strategy now while petrol/diesel costs are so high, but also in the long run as EV costs are generally lower than traditional petrol/diesel vehicles.
4. Employee benefits:
As more people switch to electric vehicles, there will be increasing demand for charging facilities, especially in urban areas where car ownership is lower. As such, offering EV charging points could be seen as an employee benefit, as they will potentially make it easier to commute to work in an electric vehicle.
5. Competitive advantage:
Being seen as eco-friendly and forward-thinking could not only attract employees bur also customers who are passionate about sustainability and environmental issues.
