Solar PV

Our qualified solar PV team is helping homeowners and businesses all over the UK to reduce their carbon emissions and their running costs by installing solar panels.

Our experts offer a complete service to help you go green, providing you with a renewables solution covering everything from solar panels and battery storage to heat pumps and electric vehicle charge points.

Solar PV Overview

Introduction to Solar PV

Solar photovoltaic (PV) panels generate electricity by converting solar energy into electrical energy. This electricity can then be used for free or exported to the National Grid.

Having solar panels on your roof allows you to generate your own clean electricity and make huge savings on your electricity bills.

In addition to making you more independent from the National Grid, having solar panels can also help you reduce your home's impact on the environment and gain more control over how and when your energy is used.

Save money on energy bills with solar PV from M2 Mechanical
For Homeowners & Businesses

Is Solar Right For You?

By powering your home or business with solar energy you will be joining thousands of others who have already plugged into solar PV to reduce their electricity bills and earn extra income from UK Government incentives.

As the world's fastest growing renewable energy solution, it's not surprising that adopting solar PV is a straightforward option for any home or business with roof space (– although panels can also be mounted on the ground where appropriate too).

Offering a very attractive Return on Investment (ROI), the payback for solar PV can be as little as six or seven years, and can also future-proof your home/business against further increases in the cost of electricity.

For businesses, as with Heat Pumps, solar PV can contribute towards your business becoming ISO 14001 compliant, which is becoming increasingly important to satisfy major companies and inward investors in their supply chains today.

MCS Accreditation

Solar MCS Certification

M2 Mechanical is proud to offer MCS-accredited solar PV installation services, ensuring the highest standards of quality, safety, and efficiency. The Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) is a trusted industry mark that guarantees our solar photovoltaic systems meet technical standards and are installed by qualified professionals.

By choosing M2 Mechanical, you can rest assured that your investment in renewable energy complies with industry best practices, unlocking access to government incentives such as the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) which allows you to earn money on your excess solar energy.

Low Carbon Sustainable Technology

How They Work

Solar panels capture the sun’s energy using photovoltaic cells. These cells can still generate electricity on a cloudy day or even in snowy conditions but do generate more electricity in stronger sunshine.

The power of a PV cell is measured in kilowatts peak (kWp). That’s the rate at which it generates energy at peak performance in full direct sunlight during the summer.

The Inverter changes the current from DC to AC, so that the sunlight converted into electricity can be used domestically.

If you have a battery, any energy that is not in demand is stored in the battery system for later use.

The Consumer Unit Board controls the distribution of solar energy and this green energy is used to power your premises when needed.

Your Import Meter accredits any unused energy to and from the Grid, which means that by selling your surplus energy to the Grid through an Export Tariff you can even earn from the electricity your panels generate!

Solar Battery Storage

If you are installing solar PV we recommend that you consider battery storage at the same time, but it goes without saying that batteries are an optional purchase and will will never push you towards a battery purchase if it's not right for you.

The idea is that with a home battery, you can store your excess solar energy to use when the sun goes down or in a power cut, or if you have a smart tariffs, make even more savings by buying cheap off-peak electricity and selling when demand is high.

When battery storage is installed at the same time as solar PV, the 0% VAT rate that applies to the solar PV installation will also apply to the battery storage system. And on top of that there is a saving to be made by purchasing an all-in-one inverter / charger, that means that overall, savings of over £1,000 can be made by installing battery storage at the same time as solar, rather than retrofitting storage at a later date.

We advise against buying ‘off-the-shelf’ solar and battery kits with preset component sizes as they don’t consider how you live your life, or what you want to achieve with a domestic battery system.

If you do need a battery system, our engineers will design it to be sized to your exact needs. Talk to one of our Solar PV team for more information.
